The Etobicoke Diving Club (EDC) was founded in 1955 by internationally renowned diving coach John Dickinson and John Finch, the supervisor of Aquatics for the Borough of Etobicoke.

The club’s first practices were held at the Downsview Air Force Base and the Montgomery Road Pool. The club later moved its practices to Alderwood Pool, and then to a new facility at Albion and Kipling that had both 1m and 3m boards with adjustable fulcrums.
By 1972, the need arose for a better sports facility. John Dickinson and Tom Riley, Superintendent of the Parks and Recreation, spearheaded a committee that included representatives from all the aquatic sports and the President of the Etobicoke Jaycees. They approached the Borough with a feasibility study for a new Olympic facility which, after much fundraising, was realized at a cost of $6,500,000. We are proud of the Olympium and the Club’s contributions towards its construction. Olympic Champion divers have said that our facility is equal to any in the world.
Over the years, the club has helped thousands of children learn to dive, both for recreation and competition. EDC has produced divers who have won championships provincially and nationally in both the Senior and Age Group categories. EDC divers and coaches have represented Canada all over the world, and also in World, Pan Am, Commonwealth, and Olympic Games competitions. In 1975, Skip Phoenix became the first Etobicoke diver to represent Canada in the Olympic Games. His coach, John Dickinson, was named as coach and manager of the 1976 Olympic Diving Team.
The EDC is an incorporated organization that operates solely to develop the sport of diving.
Head Coach: Mykhaylo (Misha) Kordyukov
President: Shelley Unterlander
As part of their commitment to the Club, parents are requested to volunteer for club projects such as participating in fundraising projects and organizing and working at our annual John Dickinson (JD) Invitational Diving Meet. Club jobs are many and varied, so there is something for everyone’s skills, interests and available time.
